Ghana Black Stars will go into today’s quarterfinal match against Guinea’s Syli Nationale at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea with the bragging right of superiority in their previous meetings.
Both sides have been regular customers over the years with the Black Stars maintaining an unbeaten record in the continent’s biggest showpiece (three wins and two draws from five matches), and also took four points off Syli Nationale in the qualifying phase for this tournament, drawing 1-1 in neutral Casablanca before winning 3-1 in Tamale.

Guinea, however, looks to further ride its luck at the tournament when it facers the four-time champion, Ghana later today in Malabo as from 6pm.
Syli Nationale ended with the exact same record as Mali in Group D and advanced after a drawing of lots. After holding all of Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Mali to 1-1 draws, it seems only fair that Guinea would have a chance to test itself in the knockout stages, but there’s no doubt that luck has been on its side.
However, coach Michel Dussuyer’s side has had to overcome a tough qualifying campaign in which it was unable to play at home due to the Ebola epidemic, before holding its own in arguably the toughest group of the tournament.
“I think that our qualification is not just luck as we deserve it given our performances even if we suffered at times,” said Guinea’s attacker, Ibrahima Traore.
Meanwhile, DR Congo yesterday ended the fairytale run of next-door neighbour, Congo Brazzaville when it came from behind to win 4-2 and qualify for the semi-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ferebory Dore put Congo in front 10 minutes into the second half. Thievy Bifouma then doubled the Red Devils’ lead just after the hour mark, but the Leopards were back in the game on 65 minutes when Dieumerci Mbokani found the net.
Loteteka Bokila equalised with 15 minutes remaining before substitute Joel Kimwaki Mpela put Florent Ibenge’s side ahead and Mbokani then clinched the win to end the adventure ends here for Claude Le Roy’s team.
